Miami County Solid Waste District
Minutes for the February 20, 2007 Meeting
Attendance: Greg Deeds, Craig Boyer, Shirley Mull, Gary Hawley, Dale Wortinger,
Lance Gallahan, John Haines, Samantha Ward and David Grund. Absent: Jim Walker.
Community guests in attendance: Brian Davis, Robert F. Davis, David and Terri
Hunter, Howard Ebert, and Tom and Lori Correll.
At 8:02 A.M. the meeting was called to order by Greg Deeds.
The minutes of the January 16, 2007 meeting were read. Craig Boyer motioned to
approve the minutes as is; Gary Hawley seconded, motion passed.
The February 2007 financial statement was presented. Lance Gallahan motioned to
approve the financial statement, Craig Boyer seconded, motion passed.
Opened the floor for comments and questions from the guests. All guests in
attendance are owners of mobile home parks. David Hunter stated he would rather
see the solid waste user fee as a percentage of the property taxes. He thinks
the current system is unfair, and the mobile home owner should be billed the fee
on their personal property taxes. Mr. Hunter had spent some time researching
other counties’ policies and presented some of these to the board. Gary Hawley
motioned to establish a committee to review the current solid waste policy.
Craig Boyer seconded, motion passed. The committee will consist of John Haines,
Gary Hawley, and Lance Gallahan. The board approved the committee.
John reviewed the summer events schedule with the board. He noted Household
Hazardous Waste Day will start March 15 and run on the third Thursday of every
month through November. Hours will be 9 A.M. until 3 P.M. John noted
Beautification Day will be held April 14 and August 25 from 8 A.M. until 2 P.M.
Tire Days will start March 10, with a limit of 10 tires per household and run
from 8 A.M. until Noon.
Craig Boyer motioned to adjourn 8:50 AM, Greg Deeds seconded, motion passed.
