Educational Programs
We
consider education to be one of our most important tools for improving,
conserving, and maintaining our natural resources in Miami County. We know
that it is important to develop a strong conservation ethic in our youth and
continue to educate land users and policy makers in the wise use of natural
resources.
To help achieve this, we
provide adult education field days on topics such as forest management, tree
planting, pond management, and tillage. Some of our youth education field
days are the annual all-county 4th grade Agriculture Field
Day at the 4-H Fairgrounds each fall and the all-county 5th grade field days at the
Lost Sister
Trail, Mississinewa Reservoir each Spring.
We also provide assistance with Envirothon and the
Arrow Head Country River Raft
Program for high school students.
Goals include:
-
Create more public awareness of
our natural resources and what the District has to offer.
-
Create strong conservation ethic
of natural resources in our schools/youth.
-
Increase policy makers and Miami
County citizens' knowledge and responsibility of conservation measures and
proper land use.
Actions include:
-
Increase the strong educational
efforts the District has in the schools.
-
Undertake a more visible
pro-active role in conservation decision making county-wide.
-
Continue to inform the public on
new programs and innovative efforts of conservation.
-
