New Children's Vaccine Requirements

During the 2009 legislative session IC 20-34-4-2 was revised.  It now requires the Indiana Department of Health a adopt the rules under IC 4-22-2 which stipulate that school age children are to receive further immunizations against the following: Meningitis (Menactra or MCV4), Varicella (chickenpox), and Pertussis (whooping cough).  These vaccinations are required for students in grades 6-12 during the 2010-11 school year.

If your child has had chickenpox, an additional vaccine is not being required at this time.  If your child has had one dose of vaccine, a second dose is now being required.  DT or Td on a student's record means that only a tetanus was given.  The immunization needed is Tdap.

Students can be excluded from school until these vaccinations are received and verification sent to the school beginning with the 2010-11 school year.
