About the
Environmental Food Specialist
The Environmental Food Specialist is responsible for a large number of tasks.
These include food inspections of approximately 190 retail food establishments
and the follow up with those establishments that have repeat and critical
violations.
The Environmental Food Specialist also issues food permits to
local merchants and temporary food vendors. Additionally, this office handles plan reviews for new and
remodeled food service establishments. Visit our
Food Resources page for more information on
these and other services.
Complaints against food service
establishments and food borne illness complaints are handled out of this office
as well, however the best defense from these concerns is education.
To that end, the Environmental Food
Specialist offers safe food handling classes for operators and employees of
retail food establishments. Free public education on safe food handling is
also provided so that family meals and cookouts can be safer from contamination
issues.
Further, any animal bites in the county are reported to this
office, and the Environmental Food Specialist ensures that all unvaccinated
animals are vaccinated for rabies.
Report generation, letters for the
environmental food area, and covering for the Environmental Health Specialist
when that person is out, are done by this office.
