County Council Meeting Minutes
February 17, 2009
MIAMI COUNTY COUNCIL
25 N BROADWAY
PERU, IN 46970
02-17-09
M I N U T E S
Vice-President McAuliffe called the February Council meeting to order. Council
President is absent. Councilman Hunt led the group in prayer and the Pledge of
Allegiance.
MEETING
The Council asked that it be noted in the minutes that there was not a meeting
in December.
MINUTES
Councilwoman Mull made a motion to accept the January minutes. Councilman Hunt
2nd the motion and it passed 6-0.
RECORDER
Brenda Weaver, County Recorder, came before the Council to ask for an
appropriation of $5200.00 from the redaction/Security Protection Fund. She would
like to put records on the Internet for people doing Genealogy. She estimates
the revenue to be approximately $11,000.00 which would go to County General.
Councilman Kendall made a motion to allow and Councilman Donaldson 2nd the
motion. The motion passed 6-0.
Mrs. Weaver also asked for an additional appropriation of $2000.00 for her
County General budget for supplies. She needs a better quality of paper for her
equipment than the Commissioners currently buy. There was a motion made to allow
but the Auditor said since we do not have a certified budget yet, we cannot do
an additional appropriation. The motion was withdrawn. She only has $375.00
budgeted in her County General budget. She was asked if she could take the paper
and supplies out of her perpetuation fund as had been done in the past, but she
said that wasn’t really allowed. She will get the Council the Statue that covers
that. Mrs. Weaver asked if the Council could take $2,000.00 from the
Commissioners budget and put it into hers. The Commissioners were not in favor
of that but consented to help her with supplies until the matter could be
resolved.
PLAN COMMISSION FEE CANGE
This was tabled until next month due to no one from the Plan Commission was in
attendance.
TOWN OF MIAMI
Greg Deeds, Chairman of the Commissioners, informed the Council that the Board
had been approached by the Town of Miami concerning a need for a sewer district.
He introduced Vicki Herrel from Miami who gave the Council an outline of the
problems they are facing. Raw sewage is being dumped into Deer Creek from the
Town. They are applying for grants but will need some financial help to get
started. They will be coming back next month to ask for $5,000.00 to get
started.
SOIL & WATER
Troy Hattery came before the Council to inquire about the $1000.00 given to 1st
Deputies at budget time. They have a program Associate that they feel qualifies
as a 1st Deputy. At budget time the council looked at title and job duties.
There were others that had different job titles that did not receive the extra
either. Councilwoman Mull made a motion to clarify what a 1st deputy is and
Councilman Hunt 2nd the motion. The motion passed 6-0.
FAMILY & CHILDREN SERVICES
Kay McGinnes and Brooke Rentschler from the Division of Family & Children
came before the Council to ask for an appropriation in their welfare fund and
child psychiatric fund. Since the State took over those areas for 08 pay 09 and
their 08 appropriation expired December 31, 2008, they have money they need to
have appropriated to pay bills from the end of 08. The amounts will be
advertized for next month.
COMMITTEE REPORTS
Dick Wiles gave a report on the progress of the Search Committee on the 9-1-1
Director position.
SHERIFF
The Sheriff informed the Council that by buying the 3 new patrol cars in just
one color instead of the two tone brown as in the past he saved $2700.00.
Adjourned
Respectfully submitted
