MIAMI COUNTY BOARD OF
COMMISSIONERS
25 NORTH BROADWAY
PERU, INDIANA 46970
MAY 29, 2006
Commissioner Hawley opened the weekly meeting of the Board of Commissioners.
HEALTH
Ken Scott, Health Environmentalist, asked the Commissioners about the Swimming
Pool Ordinance. The Board informed Mr. Scott that David Grund still has the
Ordinance.
Mr. Scott also asked the Board about using the Courthouse Float in his office.
The Board said that since the float was helping out in the Registrar office it
would probably be awhile before they could send her over there.
The Board asked Mr. Scott about the Ordinance for the HPV Vaccine. The State
will not pay for that vaccine after July 1st of this year. The Health Board
needs to sign the Ordinance for the fee to be charged. Mr. Scott will check into
it.
MINUTES
Commissioner Deeds made a motion to approve the minutes. Commissioner Boyer 2nd
the motion and it passed 3-0.
PAYROLL
Commissioner Boyer made a motion to approve the payroll with the exception of
the comp and vacation pay being sold back in 4D. Commissioner Deeds 2nd the
motion and it passed 3-0.
HIGHWAY
Sam Waltz informed the Commissioner that the Annual Report for the Highway is
complete.
Dust control in the North end of the County is done and they will be starting on
the South end today.
The Highway started their summer hours of 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Commissioner Boyer informed Mr. Waltz that the City of Converse would like to
have a Speed Limit sign placed at 1st Street (by Dollar General). Mr. Waltz said
they would need to have the Engineer look at it and an Ordinance put in place
but it wouldn’t be a problem to put a sign up. Commissioner Boyer made a motion
to have the County Engineer look at the intersection and have it posted at 30
mph. Commissioner Deeds 2nd the motion and it passed 3-0.
Oil is up 30 cents. Chip & Seal has gone up in cost as well. Instead of being
able to do 130 miles the Highway will only be able to chip and seal
approximately 60 miles.
HEALTH
The Board received a letter from the Health Officer giving Ken Scott the
authority to sign all claims under $400.00 and all payroll except overtime and
comp time. The overtime and comp time has to be signed by Dr. Stalker (not
stamped).
WABASH VALLEY RESTORATION
The Board received 4 quotes from Wabash Valley Restoration:
1) Tuck Pointing Annex Penthouse $1,960.00
2) West Side of Annex Repairs $17,960.00
3) South Side of Annex Repairs $4,725.00
4) Prime and Paint 45 windows $1,035.00
Commissioner Boyer made a motion to approve the first one (Tuck Pointing,
$1,960.00) and look at Cum Courthouse before deciding on the other three.
Commissioner Deeds 2nd the motion and it passed 3-0.
COUNTY ATTORNEY
Mr. Grund and the Board discussed the Swimming Pool Ordinance. Commissioner
Boyer felt that the fees were a little excessive. Mr. Grund suggested passing
the ordinance and fee schedule at the same time. The Commissioner would like to
speak to Ken Scott again about the Ordinance. This issue is tabled until next
week.
A motion to adjourn was made by Commissioner Boyer. The motion was 2nd by
Commissioner Deeds and passed 3-0.
