The Miami County Assessor's Office has many responsibilities, which include:

  • Advising and instructing the county's Township Assessors.

  • Overseeing the General Reassessment process.

  • Insuring countywide uniform property Assessment Equalization.

  • Serving as member/secretary of the County Property tax Assessment Board of Appeals.

  • Calculating the total assessed value of each taxing district.

  • Certification of current assessments to the County Auditor's Office.

  • Acting as Inheritance Tax Appraiser and representing the Inheritance Tax Division.

  • Overseeing the review and verification of the self-reported values of all personal property in each taxing district.

  • Assessment of personal property mobile homes.

  • Utilization of recent sales of land (Sales Disclosures) to establish base market rates and values for each neighborhood, adjusting bases vales for location, nearness to amenities, and other influence factors.

  • Reviewing Not-For-Profit applications for property tax exemption.

  • Processing Appeal of Assessment petitions after they have been filed  and no resolution was reached.

  • Reviewing and processing Tax Abatements.

  • Responsibility for the selection of assessment software and computer systems.
