Peoria, Indiana
Indiana
boasts two different towns named Peoria, one in Franklin County and the other in
Miami County's Butler Township. This page references Miami County's own Peoria, which was
laid out as a town in 1845 by Isaac Litzenberger.
Located near the spillway on the downstream side of the beautiful
Mississinewa Reservoir, Peoria is close to many great activities.
Fishing, hiking, picnicking, camping, and more are near at hand from this
community.
Once a trading point of considerable importance, Peoria's significance dwindled
with the advent of the railroads and the moving of trade to other
communities.
Peoria, which gets its name from a tribe of Native Americans, is still a great place
to make a pit stop while exploring the Frances Slocum Trail and the Mississinewa.
