Responsibilities

The Miami County Assessor's Office Has Many Responsibilities


  • Advising and instructing the county's Township Assessors
  • Overseeing the General Reassessment process
  • Insuring countywide uniform property Assessment Equalization
  • Serving as member/secretary of the County Property tax Assessment Board of Appeals
  • Calculating the total assessed value of each taxing district
  • Certification of current assessments to the County Auditor's Office
  • Acting as Inheritance Tax Appraiser and representing the Inheritance Tax Division
  • Overseeing the review and verification of the self-reported values of all personal property in each taxing district
  • Assessment of personal property mobile homes
  • Utilization of recent sales of land (Sales Disclosures) to establish base market rates and values for each neighborhood, adjusting bases vales for location, nearness to amenities, and other influence factors
  • Reviewing Not-For-Profit applications for property tax exemption
  • Processing Appeal of Assessment petitions after they have been filed  and no resolution was reached
  • Reviewing and processing Tax Abatements
  • Responsibility for the selection of assessment software and computer systems
